Privacy Policy
1. Controller and contact
Data controller: Walter Caraza, who develops ReaderPort under the dddmovil brand. Country: Spain.
Contact: wcaraza199@gmail.com or the in-app form (More › Send Feedback).
2. Summary
ReaderPort shows your Kobo e-reader’s library and annotations on your iPhone. It works without an account, advertising, analytics or tracking. Your books, highlights and notes are stored on your device and are never sent automatically to the developer or to third parties. The app only connects to the internet in the three cases in section 5, always because of something you do.
3. Data the app processes
| Data | Where | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Copy of the Kobo database: books, reading progress, highlights, notes, bookmarks and wishlist | Only on your iPhone | Showing you your library |
| Kobo model and firmware version (the serial number is discarded) | Only on your iPhone | Knowing which e-reader an import came from |
| Covers stored on the Kobo | Only on your iPhone | Showing covers |
| Sync history (date, result and counts, no titles) | Only on your iPhone | Showing what changed and when |
| Favorites and the ReaderPort notes you write (including your edited versions of Kobo notes) | Only on your iPhone | The features you use |
| Settings (online covers on/off), the last Kobo folder you chose (an iOS bookmark) and counters and dates that limit review requests and form submissions | Only on your iPhone | Running the app |
| Backups you create in More › Backup and Restore | Wherever you choose to save them (Files, iCloud Drive…) | Protecting and recovering your library |
| What you write in the feedback form | Web3Forms and the developer’s email (section 6) | Replying to you and improving the app |
ReaderPort never writes anything to the Kobo. iOS doesn’t let the app access the Kobo until you choose it in the file picker.
4. Storage and retention
- On your device. The library is stored in a local database protected by iOS data protection. It’s kept until you delete the data (section 11) or the app. Annotations you delete on the Kobo are kept, marked “no longer on your Kobo”, so you don’t lose them.
- Copy before a format update. When a new version of the app updates the database format, a copy of the previous database is first saved on the same device in case it needs to be recovered.
- ReaderPort backups. If you create one, the app produces a file with your library, favorites and notes, and you save it wherever you choose; it isn’t sent to the developer. The file isn’t encrypted: keep it somewhere private. Before restoring or merging a backup, the app keeps an automatic copy of the library on the device (the last 10 are kept).
- iOS backup. The library database (and that previous copy) is included in your iCloud or computer backup if backups are on. The imported Kobo copy and the covers are excluded because they can be recreated. Backups are managed by Apple according to your settings.
- Messages received. Feedback you send is kept in the developer’s email for at most 3 weeks and then deleted.
5. External services
| Service | When | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Web3Forms (feedback form) | Only if you send feedback | What section 6 describes and, as with any connection, your IP address |
| Open Library / Internet Archive (covers) | Only if you turn on “Search for missing covers online” (off by default) | The book’s ISBN or, without a valid one, its title and author; your IP address |
| Apple (App Store, StoreKit) | Only if you leave a tip or rate the app | What Apple processes under its policy; ReaderPort doesn’t receive your payment details |
| Cloudflare (hosting of this website) | When you visit this website | Technical connection data (such as your IP) to serve and protect the pages |
Each provider has its own privacy policy: Web3Forms, Internet Archive (terms of use), Apple and Cloudflare.
6. Feedback form
If you send feedback from More › Send Feedback, it goes to Web3Forms, which forwards it by email to the developer: the category (suggestion, general feedback or bug/problem), subject, message and, if you enter it, your email so you can get a reply. If you turn on “Include technical information”, also the app version, iOS version and device model; the app shows you that text before sending. Your books, highlights, notes, database and history are never sent.
According to Web3Forms’ official documentation (FAQ), it is a product of Web3Creative, a business registered in Kerala (India); its servers are in the United States (US-East region); server logs that may contain personal data are deleted periodically (every 2 months), and a server-side spam check runs on every submission. The same FAQ says submissions are not stored, but its Submissions API documentation (Pro plan) says they are. Details on retention, email providers and anti-spam services are those stated in Web3Forms’ privacy policy.
Legal basis: your consent when you send the form (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and the legitimate interest in replying to you and improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can send feedback without leaving your email.
7. Online covers (optional)
It’s off by default. If you turn it on in More › Covers, for each book without a cover the app queries Open Library with its ISBN or, without a valid one, its title and author. Nothing else about you or your reading is sent. You can turn it off and delete saved covers at any time. Legal basis: your consent when you turn it on (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
8. In-app purchases (tips)
Tips are optional and don’t unlock anything. Apple processes them with StoreKit: payment, your account and billing data are handled by Apple as an independent controller. ReaderPort only receives from StoreKit the verified confirmation of the purchase on your device, to thank you; it doesn’t store or send any purchase history.
9. Sharing a highlight
Only when you tap “Share” on a highlight, the app passes the iOS share sheet the text of that highlight, the book’s title and author, the chapter if known and the line “Shared from ReaderPort”. Where it goes is up to you and is handled by the app you choose. No internal identifiers or other highlights are included.
10. What ReaderPort doesn’t do
No analytics, advertising, cross-app tracking, user accounts or external AI services. It doesn’t sell or share data. It doesn’t write the content of your books, annotations or messages to system logs.
11. How to delete your data
- Imported Kobo copy: Sync › Tools › Delete Imported Copies (your library is kept).
- Covers: More › Covers › Delete Saved Covers.
- ReaderPort notes: open one and tap “Delete Note”. Favorites: tap the star to remove them.
- The whole library and everything the app stored on the device: delete ReaderPort from your iPhone. Existing backups follow your iOS settings.
- Backups you saved: delete them in the Files app or wherever you saved them.
- Messages sent to the developer: deleted after 3 weeks at most; you can ask for earlier deletion at wcaraza199@gmail.com.
12. International transfers
Your library data doesn’t leave your device (except in your own iOS backup). Some providers in section 5 may process data outside the European Economic Area: Internet Archive and Apple are based in the United States, and Cloudflare runs a global network. Web3Forms has its servers in the United States and is a company based in India. When you send feedback, your data is transferred to Web3Forms because it is necessary to deliver the message you choose to send; if you don’t want that transfer, you can write directly to the email in section 1. The safeguards each provider applies are those stated in its own policy (links in section 5).
13. Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability, and withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to wcaraza199@gmail.com or through the in-app form. Because the library lives only on your device, you control most of that data directly (section 11); the developer has no access to it. You can also lodge a complaint with your country’s data protection authority (in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, aepd.es).
14. This website
This site is static: no cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, third-party fonts or scripts, and no forms. If you choose a language manually, it’s remembered in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie, and never sent to a server). The host (Cloudflare) processes technical connection data to serve the pages.
15. Children
ReaderPort isn’t specifically directed at children and doesn’t knowingly collect data from them.
16. Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will be updated and the change will be noted in the app’s What’s New.
